I Have a Confession
Canceling my Kickstarter
Greetings my mighty Legion!
I have a confession. I miscalculated several things, and I need to cancel this project.
The TLDR: Bad News
I underestimated how many pages I would have in Issue 4.
Subsequently, the issue should/needs to be split into two parts.
The increased page count has increased the pricing estimates for the floppy comic and for the trade volume. Not to mention the shipping.
If this funds, the money would be insufficient for the work.
Increased page count also means more time and strained deadline on promises made.
I need more for back issue printing to fulfill rewards.
I don’t think I can undertake a two front load of learning file formatting for two new printers.
The TLDR: Good News
Part 1 for this new endeavor is completely done given a couple of bonus pages.
I already have the new cover DONE.
The new pre-launch page is LIVE.
The same variant cover, tiers, and remasters are still on the table.
When we hit 80 followers, this project can go live.
Here’s the Link!
So, there it is. I made this decision for a trade paper back a year ago, not knowing exactly what the future would hold. When I decided on the launch day, I thought it would work in tandem with being at our state’s largest convention, and I also suspected I would be about done with 50 pages of work around that time. Well, I am almost done with 50 pages sitting at 38, but after reviewing floppy comic specs and my outlines, im not almost done with the finale for this first part of the series. Here inlays the problem.
My mission is to give you a quality story to the best of my ability. I don’t rush things I don’t think should be rushed, or at least, I try not to. That means if I think I have to make a 5th issue as a part 2 to the finale of this arc for the sake of the story’s moving parts, then that’s what I’m going to do. An issue 5 will easily be another 30 pages.
All this to say that I could be stretching the limits of a staple bound comic and would have to go soft bound if this was one huge issue. That is a huge price hike when it’s in the 80 page range. That’s an entire story in of itself, and kind of conflicts with making a volume 1. As well, there are all the other price increases with that many added pages. I also promised behind the scene/ abandoned pages, commission pages, shoutout pages etc. (The bonus content of a deluxe) And it’s just so much more than anticipated.
Finally, I’m new to the world of graphic novel printing. My intentions were to use Print Ninja as the printer, and they’re new to me. Different printers have different methods, templates, etc. It always comes with complications. I’m also switching to using Comic impressions rather than Comix Wellspring. Same issue, given im more familiar with a floppy comic. So to tackle these changes on top of making commissions, 30+ more pages, and all the scroll-able assets. It’s a lot of promises that I’d rather not face all at once.
Another piece of this is the need for back-issues. I need to order more issue 1 and 2s for anyone that requests them, and again, the funding goal just won’t cover that.
I want to say thank you again for showing up in this campaign. You all blew me away! I mentioned before the TOTAL number of backers for my previous campaigns was 32, and you surpassed that in a matter of days! We sit a 44 backers with two weeks left! But I had to give this an objective look. I don’t want to waste your time.
This has been an extremely difficult decision to determine, but I think it is for the best.
What Now?
So, where does that leave us? Well you see the link up there! Go sign-up!
I have this version of issue four 99% done with an achievable goal that has room to make everything quality, on time, and not strained. And I have to say im quite proud of this cover. What happens to the standard cover from this campaign? That cover is more related to what issue 5 will be, so I’m going to reserve it for that!
I’ll launch when we hit 80 followers, so it’s important that you just go press “Follow” or “Notify me on launch”
Thank you all so much for your support and I hope you understand,
Suzerain Dionna
