Vegas Trip 2024
The Redemption
Two years ago, we went to the “When We Were Young” festival during financial difficulties. I had already purchased the tickets a year earlier, and we were invested. It was fun, adventurous, and held many gems. Still, there were a lot of things we didn’t get to invest in fully—a lot of Vegas left to see. It was an easy decision when I saw that My Chemical Romance would be alongside Fall Out Boy and that Cobra Starship would be coming back this year to do Vegas again. So we returned to the 2024 When We Were Young festival!
We went into the Omega Mart the satirical exhibit on consumption and corporate decimation of individualism. This was an incredible experience to be a part of an art piece. It held a lot of humor light and dark. I advise setting aside a large portion of the day to explore this exhibit and to read as much as you can in it. You can also grab their products like the renowned energy drink, “Wake Up! Please!”
Later, my girlfriend purchased us both some tickets for a Burlesque show. Never before had I heard of Dita Von Teese, but I certainly know now. This was an astounding and packed show of performances. If you have never heard of or know of Burlesque, it is a French style of dance and stripping. So there were several very well-choreographed performances of tricks, erotica, dance, and acts. I will forever want to catch every one of these shows I can in the future.
Finally, the festival itself! There were some setbacks like strained feet and legs, or expensive cocktails and drinks, but every riff and beat made it all worth it. This is a festival of headliners. Pierce the Veil, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Simple Plan, etc. They started as early as 2:30, and yet they couldn’t prepare us for the show that Fall Out Boy had put on for us. It was a spectacle in its own right of Pyro, album sets and themes, big screen visuals, and the energy they brought. My Chemical Romance really did well, but by the time they had come out, I had used the last of my fumes on Fall Out Boy. We were also at an odd angle of the stage, so I didn’t get to see their visuals. They were perfect, though, and I only wish I had been able to maintain my energy.
So our Vegas experience has been exponentially upgraded, and I look forward to coming back.
Envy will resume updates next week!
